Where are your scopes, binoculars, or spotting scopes made?
The majority is made in Romania but some products come from Germany and are 100% Made in Germany. In many instances our competitors optics will have a German or U.S.A. name on them but they are made in the Orient, usually China. If it says "MADE IN"in front of a country name, that is where it is from. We import our glass and illumination circuits from Germany, but we make everything else under one roof. We cut, grind, polish and coat our own lenses unlike 98% of our competitors. We make our own tubes and do not use assemblies made in other countries. We know with certainty who we deal with on a daily basis. Just because you sign a contract for glass or lenses with a Japanese company does not mean they cannot subcontract that out to the Philippines or China, etc. They can legally stamp whatever you want on a scope tube or a pair of binoculars and many times a buyer is blinded by brand name recognition and fails to realize their $700.00 binoculars cost $25.00 at the dock. Since the only place to buy high quality raw OPTICAL GRADE glass is Japan or Europe, the market of manufacturing is quite small and cozy and we all know each other quite well. We control 100% of our manufacturing and that is why our standard of quality is apparent in each product we bring to the market.
Who makes your glass?
All our glass in all our products is made by SCHOTT GLASSWERK in Germany. All our scopes feature etched reticules.
Who makes your bases and rings?
We do. We make steel products out of 4140 and alloy products out of 7075 and 6061. We have outsourced to US companies only in the past due to demands, but for the most part we keep it in the family.
What shipping restrictions do you have?Valdada Optics can only ship products within the United States of America. This includes riflescopes, bases, rings, mounts, and technical information pertaining to such items.
What torque specs do you have for your rings and bases?Valdada Optics recommends 12 INCH POUNDS for our ring caps. Our heavy duty V-Tac rings with 1/2" nuts or 7/16" nuts can be tightened to 65 INCH POUNDS on picatinny platforms but that is a MIL-SPEC standard and not necessary for standard applications. Usually after the nuts are finger tight, additional force of about 90 degrees is more than enough to hold your rings to your bases. Standard hand pressure is enough with our QD style lever rings.
What size wrenches are required for your bases and rings? Most everything we use now has a T15 torx style head. Our tactical scopes come with 3mm hex keys, and some of our bases require 2.5mm hex keys that come with those bases. Our tactical scopes with exposed knobs come standard with a 2mm hex key.
Can I change the reticule in my scope?Valdada Optics does not currently offer this service.
What is the turn around time for repairs? This question has several answers. It is always good to check with Valdada Optics (303-979-4578) BEFORE you send in your optic for repair. Many times trouble shooting over the phone solves a problem and shipping costs to you are avoided. If the optic requires service, package it well and ship it in with an explanation of your problem. If the parts are on hand, turnaround time is usually within 14 business days if the weather permits range time and testing. If the scope can only be repaired by the original factory, it will be sent in a BATCH SHIPMENT to Europe. Due to importing and exporting laws, it is illegal to ship optics outside the USA without the proper permits. The receiving party must also have a temporary import certificate to receive the optics. As we try to schedule in advance, these certificates can takes months to procure and since we do not have many returns, we will send them in a BATCH under one certificate. Unfortunately this is the only way and a 6 month turnaround is normal. We can give you a good estimate of time once we have our certificates in place.
Who fixes your binoculars? All binoculars made in Romania can be fixed by: Koehler Optics, attn. HERB KOEHLER, PO BOX 6313, Libertyville, IL. 60048. If your binoculars are German please contact us so we can advise you on the proper course of action.
Why do some scopes have blue rings or yellow tinted glass? As the leader in riflescope technology, Valdada Optics usually introduces 3-5 new scopes every year. In our efforts to always improve our products, we make changes regularly and the older scopes become discontinued. They are always serviceable and carry our warranty with the appropriate documentation. Sometimes the changes are for cosmetic or ergonomic reasons, other times it is a construction change. The blue rings scopes had our signature color, but enough requests came in for all black that we dropped the blue. As far as some scopes being tinted yellow; THAT IS NOT A TINT. The glass was a very special limited edition made by SCHOTT GLASSWERK and it is actually the color of the glass, not a coating. It was designed to withstand the gamma rays of nuclear effects and was manufactured with special anti-radiant properties. These scopes are collector’s items.
How do I change my battery and what size is it? All our batteries are 3 volt 2032 lithium you can find anywhere. If you look at the illumination knob, it will be split in two and you hold the part with the numbers still while rotating the cap. ZERO (0) is the off position and 7 is the brightest. Our tactical scopes feature red illumination and our hunting models feature green illuminated dots in the center.
Why is my reticule off to one side? Our M-series of tactical scopes and our 3 x 25 QRTS scopes feature non-centered reticules. As you move the reticule, it physically moves inside the scope as there is no erector tube moving. It is normal to have it sit out of center and this system has proven to be incredibly durable in combat situations.
How do I re-zero my tactical knobs? Please see our page on setting your tactical knobs to zero. Hunting scopes feature low profile knobs and they do not have the re-zero feature.
Do I have a .223 or .308 BDC cam in my M-Series scope?(4 x 24 or 6 x 30 super) M1 scopes or Super M1 scopes have elevation dials that read 0-10 and they are for .308 168gr FMJ from a standard 24" bbl M2 scopes or Super M2 scopes have elevation dials that read 1-8 and they are for .223 62gr FMJ from a standard 20" bbl
What warranty do I get if I buy a used scope? All our scopes come with a limited lifetime warranty (please read that page). The warranty will follow the scope as long as the appropriate owners certificate does as well. Many times a scope will be damaged by a user and the scope turns up on an auction website and the buyer is unaware of damages. The warranty does not cover user abuse. Our technicians can tell what went wrong so honesty is your best policy if you buy a used scope and need repair work.
